This history of this building was fully researched and understood by Nikken Sekkei before this third generation design was completed and the building delivered.

The team worked together in a single spirit to respect memories and feelings, creating a long and impressive entrance way with dramatic eaves, evoking "omotenashi" - the word to express hospitality in a Japanese way.

The way that the original buildings were combined with modern solutions was a defining feature, creating a building to last into the future. The cost control methodology was also a notable and successful component of the management of the project.
